Accessibility

Access for all

This website is owned and managed by Great Amwell Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible is this website?

We know some parts of this website may not be fully accessible:

  • you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text.
  • some icons used as Social Media identifiers or menu identifiers may not be recognised by screen reader software.
  • some older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
  • some diary entries may be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard.

Great Amwell Parish Council want everyone to be able to access all the information on this site but we realise that some people may have difficulties viewing everything.

Thankfully, today’s technology offers solutions to help and browsers have many built in tools:

Changing the text size in your browser

If you find that the text is too small for you to read, you can change it to a size you’re more comfortable with:

  • In Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more  and then choose Zoom in , Zoom out,  or Full screen . Or, use the following keyboard shortcuts.

  • In Macintosh Internet Explorer and Netscape 6 and 7, use the View > Text Zoom menu.

  • In Opera, use the Zoom selector.

  • In Firefox and other Mozilla browsers, use the View > Zoom option.

  • In Safari, use the View > Make Text Bigger option.

If you use a wheel-mouse, you may be able to change the text size by holding down the Control or Command key and turning the wheel. In some browsers, you can change the text size using Control or Command

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Great Amwell Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Disproportionate burden - PDFs and other documents

Some older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2.  However, these documents relate to past events.

We are not required by accessibility regulations to re-publish these documents if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
